Records broken Winter season:
Men’s Swimming 200 Medley Relay team of Charles Heisig, Troy Keen, Michael Rice, Jordan Willis were 4A State Champions and broke the NCHSAA State Record for the event in All Classificiations!

Aria Wegh (Women’s Indoor Track & Field) – State Champion in the 55m Hurdles, State Runner-Up in the 55m Dash, 300m Dash, High Jump. These outstanding individual performances led to Aria being named the NCHSAA State Meet MVP!

Zahra Douglas (Women’s Basketball) – Eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark and later broke the career scoring record for the Marvin Ridge Women’s Basketball program. She was named the Southern Carolina 4A Conference Player of the Year, helping lead her team to the Regular Season and Conference Tournament Titles!
Riley Smith (Women’s Basketball) – Broke the career Assists record for the Marvin Ridge Women’s Basketball program.

Special Story
The Marvin Ridge Student-Athlete Leadership Council participated in a community service project by hosting our first Suits & Sneakers Basketball game for the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer Week. Over $800.00 was raised and donated to the American Cancer Society in support of cancer research. Way to Go Mavericks!

Men's Wrestling
At the 4A Individual Wrestling State Championships, UCPS’s Nathan Carnes of Porter Ridge captured gold, winning the 4A 285-pound weight class title after pinning Taevion Cox (New Bern), 3:33.
Also advancing to the final round of the championships was Noah Cauble of Piedmont (113 lb).
Other strong finishes by UCPS wrestlers included:
4A 126 pounds Sixth: Carter Bockenstedt (Weddington).
4A 145 lbs Third: Christian Hasty (Porter Ridge).
4A 160 lbs Sixth: Daniel Freeman (Marvin Ridge).
4A 170 lbs Fifth: Bennett DiCarlo (Weddington).
UCPS wrestlers represented at the 3A Individual Wrestling State Championships including:
3A 152 lbs Third: Logan Fite (Central Academy).
3A 160 lbs Third: Sage Tala (Parkwood).

Women's Wrestling Invitational
The NCHSAA crowned champions at its Girls Wrestling Invitational, two of which were UCPS athletes. The two-day event culminated with competitions in 12 weight classes.
Brianna Deleon of Weddington won first place in the 132 lb Division.
1st Place Match: Brianna Deleon (Weddington) 20-0, So. over Hailie Misplay (Pine Forest) 33-5, Sr. (Fall 1:41)
Savannah Bramhall of Parkwood won first place in the 165 lb Division.
1st Place Match: Savannah Bramhall (Parkwood) 33-0, Sr. over Franshesca Morales (North Henderson) 24-3, Jr. (TF-1.5 4:19 (17-2))
This marks the final year the NCHSAA will hold the girls wrestling invitational. Beginning with the 2023-2024 season, girls wrestling will become a sanctioned sport in North Carolina, making the sport eligible to hold state championship competitions.

At the 4A Mens Indoor Track/Field State Championship Cuthbertson repeated as NCHSAA team champs. Porter Ridge’s team also finished strong, capturing fourth place. Â

In the 3A Mens Championships Central Academy’s 4X800M team took second place with a time of 8:26.50 while teammate Emanuel Williams took third in the High Jump clearing 6-00.00.Â
In the 1A/2A Division, Monroe’s 4X200M Relay team finished third with a time of 1:34.39.Â

Women's Track/Field
At the 4A Womens Indoor Track/Field State Championship, Cuthbertson repeated as NCHSAA team champions, with the girls being pushed by Olympic. 
The Cuthbertson girls were led by Charlotte Bell’s all-classification meet record in the 1,600 meters (4:45.19).  In the Girls 1000M Cuthbertson swept 1st-3rd with Justine Preisano claiming gold, Stella Kermes and Charlotte Bell 11 Cuthbertson finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.   
Another UCPS athlete hitting the state recordbook was Marvin Ridge’s Aria Wegh who was named most outstanding performer of the girls meet. She won the 55-meter hurdles and finished second in the high jump, 55-meter dash and the 300-meters.
Swimming/Diving
Men's Swim/Dive
At the 4A Mens Swim/Dive Championships, Marvin Ridge started the meet off with a shot of excitement as the Maverick 200 Medley Relay team comprised of Charles Heisig, Jordan Willis, Troy Keen, and Michael Rice combined to take down the all classification record for the event. The Maverick squad raced to a time of 1:32.20, shaving four hundredths of a second off the previous state meet.Â
Colin Mumford from Marvin Ridge won a 2023 4A Swimming & Diving Men’s Sportsmanship Award.Â
Cheer
The NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational took place at the Raleigh Convention Center featuring routines in junior varsity and varsity divisions, as well as Gameday and Competitive Cheer divisions. The Tarheel Trophy, in its second season at the Cheer Invitational, is awarded to the top varsity team regardless of division in the gameday cheerleading competition.Â
Weddington nabbed the Tarheel Trophy with its first place 92.9 score in the Varsity Game Day D1 Division.
Marvin Ridge finished first in the Medium Varsity D1 Division with a score of 71.1.
Porter Ridge finished second in the Medium Varsity Non-Tumble D1 Division.
