Football

Two UCPS teams made deep runs into the 4A NCHSAA Football Championships.   Weddington advanced to the Regional Round, losing by one point to eventual championship contenders, Grimsley. 

 

In the 2A Championship, Monroe advanced to the 4th round, outscoring their opponents 130 – 40 before losing to Burns.

Cross Country

Cuthbertson’s women’s team blasted their way to a fifth straight 4A Cross Country State Championship, outscoring Cardinal Gibbons 32-81. The Cavaliers’ 32 is the lowest team score in a 4A Race since Green Hope’s 34 in 2010. Stella Kermes capped her junior season with an individual State Championship, clipping the tape in 17:40.94.

Cuthbertson women also got top ten finishes from Charlotte Bell, Justine Preisano and Alyssa Preisano. Bell finished in fifth, posting a time of 18:24.23. Justine Preisano was just behind her in sixth at 18:31.36. Her older sister, Alyssa Preisano, came in ninth posting a time of 18:33.08. 

In the 4A Men’s State Championship, Weddington’s Caden Townshend takes second in a close race.

Men's Soccer

Weddington advances to the championship round of the 4A Championship before losing to Cardinal Gibbons, 1-0. 

Weddington finished the season 21-3-1. The Warriors were the champions of the Southern Carolina 4A and appeared in the program’s first 4A State Championship. The Warriors won the Men’s Soccer team’s third Western Regional Championship and appeared in the State Championship Match for the first time since winning the 2020-21 COVID-shortened season.  

The Sportsmanship Award for the 2022 4A Men’s Soccer State Championship Match was presented to Jake Wittig from Weddington.

Women's Tennis

Two UCPS teams qualified to compete in  the NCHSAA 2022 Women’s Tennis Dual-Team Championships including Marvin Ridge and Central Academy.  Marvin advanced to the Quarter-finals in the 4A division while CATA competed in the 1st round of the 3A division.

In the 4A Women’s Tennis Individual Championships, Harni Anand (Cuthbertson) qualified to compete in the 1st round.

Volleyball

Sun Valley advanced to the 4A Volleyball State Championships and wrapped up the season at 29-3. The Spartans posted a 9-1 record on their way to winning the Southern Carolina 4A. Sun Valley appeared in the State Championship Match for the first time after winning the Regional Championship for the first time in program history.

The 2022 NC Farm Bureau Volleyball Sportsmanship Award was presented to Hailey Pearce from Sun Valley.

Cheer

Weddington nabbed the Tarheel Trophy with its 92.9 score in the Varsity Game Day D1 Division at the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational in the Raleigh Convention Center.

The Tarheel Trophy, in its second season at the Cheer Invitational, is awarded to the top varsity team regardless of division in the gameday cheerleading competition. The Invitational features routines in junior varsity and varsity divisions, as well as Gameday and Competitive Cheer divisions.

Marvin Ridge placed first in their division at the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational in the Raleigh Convention Center. The Mavs are the Medium Varsity D1 State Champions!

Women's Golf

The 2022 Parkwood High School Varsity Women’s Golf Team won the 2A/3A Rocky River Conference and were the 2022 Rocky River Conference Tournament Champions Women’s Golf.
 
The team finish 3rd at regionals and become the first golf team in the history of Parkwood High School to advance as a team to the State Tournament.
