East-West All-Star Football

Two UCPS football players named to all-star game

Two Union County Public Schools football players have been selected to the East-West All-Star Football Game, the N.C. Coaches Association announced on Thursday morning.

Caniyus Rushing of Monroe and Davis Weycker of Piedmont will represent their schools in the game, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, at Jamieson Stadium on the Grimsley High School campus in Greensboro.

The East-West All-Star Game features some of the top graduating seniors in the West against their counterparts from the East.

Rushing and Weycker will play for the West team.

Rushing is a 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman who was selected to the all-star game as a defensive lineman.

According to 247Sports, Rushing has offers from East Carolina and Troy.

In eight games this season, Rushing has recorded 25 total tackles, including 17 solo tackles and 8 tackles for loss.

Monroe is currently 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Rocky River 4A/5A Conference. The Redhawks will host Mount Pleasant (6-2) on Friday night.

Weycker is a linebacker and long snapper for Piedmont. He stands at 6-foot-3 and 236 pounds.

Weycker has committed to Lenoir-Rhyne to play college football.

So far this season, Weycker has recorded 101 total tackles, including 62 solo tackles, and 17 tackles for loss. He also has two sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, and two blocked field goals.

Piedmont is currently 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Southern Carolina 6A/7A Conference. The Panthers will host Weddington (9-0) on Friday night.

Only seniors at schools in the N.C. High School Athletic Association are eligible to participate in the all-star games. Players are nominated by their coaches, then selected by the all-star coaching staff.
