14 Union County players named to NCBCA All-District Teams
The N.C. Basketball Coaches Association has released its all-district teams for the 2025-2026 season.
All-district teams are voted on by coaches who are members of the NCBCA. Players from N.C. High School Athletic Association member schools are eligible for selection, regardless of class.
Seven boys and seven girls from Union County were selected to the all-district team this year for District 8.
Among the selections was Janiya Boyd (Monroe), who was named the District 8 Player of the Year in girls basketball. Boyd, a sophomore, averaged 30.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 4.2 steals per game this season.
In addition, Marvin Ridge girls basketball coach Steve Lenahan was named the District 8 Coach of the Year. Marvin Ridge posted a 23-5 record this season and won the Southern Carolina Conference. The Mavericks advanced to the fourth round of the state playoffs where they lost to North Mecklenburg.

Girls Basketball

- Ashanti Taylor (Porter Ridge) – 1st Team, District 8
- Leyah Melton (Forest Hills) – 1st Team, District 8

- Miley Malcolm (Porter Ridge) – 2nd Team, District 8
- Azariyah Griffin (Forest Hills) – 3rd Team, District 8
